Tight Bounds on the Number of String Subsequences
نویسنده
چکیده
The problem considered is that of determining the number of subsequences obtainable by deleting t symbols from a string of length n over an alphabet of size s. Recurrences are proven and solved for the maximum and average case values, and bounds on these values are exhibited.

On the edge geodetic and edge geodetic domination numbers of a graph
In this paper, we study both concepts of geodetic dominatingand edge geodetic dominating sets and derive some tight upper bounds onthe edge geodetic and the edge geodetic domination numbers. We also obtainattainable upper bounds on the maximum number of elements in a partitionof a vertex set of a connected graph into geodetic sets, edge geodetic sets, geodetic domin...
متن کاملMore inequalities for Laplacian indices by way of majorization
The n-tuple of Laplacian characteristic values of a graph is majorized by the conjugate sequence of its degrees. Using that result we find a collection of general inequalities for a number of Laplacian indices expressed in terms of the conjugate degrees, and then with a maximality argument, we find tight general bounds expressed in terms of the size of the vertex set n and the average degree dG...
متن کاملOn the super domination number of graphs
The open neighborhood of a vertex $v$ of a graph $G$ is the set $N(v)$ consisting of all vertices adjacent to $v$ in $G$. For $Dsubseteq V(G)$, we define $overline{D}=V(G)setminus D$. A set $Dsubseteq V(G)$ is called a super dominating set of $G$ if for every vertex $uin overline{D}$, there exists $vin D$ such that $N(v)cap overline{D}={u}$. The super domination number of $G$ is the minimum car...
متن کاملStrings with Maximum Numbers of Distinct Subsequences and Substrings
A natural problem in extremal combinatorics is to maximize the number of distinct subsequences for any length-n string over a finite alphabet Σ; this value grows exponentially, but slower than 2. We use the probabilistic method to determine the maximizing string, which is a cyclically repeating string. The number of distinct subsequences is exactly enumerated by a generating function, from whic...
متن کاملUpper and Lower Tight Error Bounds for Feature Omission with an Extension to Context Reduction
In this work, fundamental analytic results in the form of error bounds are presented that quantify the effect of feature omission and selection for pattern classification in general, as well as the effect of context reduction in string classification, like automatic speech recognition, printed/handwritten character recognition, or statistical machine translation. A general simulation framework ...
